What is Reiki ?

Reiki is a natural healing technique that makes use of the laying-on of hands. Thought to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago, reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk in the 1800's. It was his purpose to find how Buddha healed the sick by physical touch. Presently reiki is being practiced by several physicians at hospital, during operations and in the emergency room and gaining as a meaningful and cost-effective way to improve patient care. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words Rei and Ki. Rei means universal force. Ki means life energy that is found in and around living things. It is a natural, gently, non-invasive, yet powerful method of healing that is given by gentle touch. The aim of this healing energy is to mobilize the natural power of the body to heal itself. Reiki is not a substitute for medical and other health care treatments, but complements, supports, and enhances them.

What is a treatment like ?

Reiki is given by the laying-on of hands. A standard treatment includes placing the hands on different positions around the head, shoulders, stomach and feet. Each position is held for 2 to 5 minutes and the entire treatment lasts between 45 minutes to an hour. A treatment creates a wonderful glowing radiance that is deeply relaxing and includes many beneficial effects for both client and practitioner.
